Clay Studio for ALL ages!

Signature Arts Building offers a calm, joyful space to make in. We will be playing with clay and learning an assortment of hand building processes. We will have fun exploring surface design and glazing. Each class will include instruction for hand-building processes and time to explore making with clay. Earthenware, tools, materials, and firing are included in the cost. Work will be both bisque and glaze fired. Feel free to contact ritapanton@gmail.com with any questions.
Clay studio is appropriate for any level of experience with clay and is intergenerational, all ages are welcome.

Rita Panton earned her BFA from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and was a 2020 recipient of the Jerome Project Grant at Northern Clay Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Currently she works out of a studio in Prospect Park, sharing her time between family life, the kitchen, and the studio. Inspired by her drawings, Panton’s ceramic sculptures playfully explore balance and hyperbole, hanging off walls or resting on overly large heads with tiny feet dangling in the air. Developing a hybrid sculpting method that merges flat and three-dimensional work, she captures figures in her unique illustrative style to tell stories about her generation’s experiences of the world. With expression and color, Panton explores the personalities, fears, attitudes, and awkwardness of her characters and the greater perspectives that influenced them. Her work reminds us to appreciate and question the beautiful peculiarity of daily interactions and activities.
